Import duty & tax calculator
A quick ballpark of the customs duty and VAT/GST you might pay on an international order. All values in USD.
How import charges are calculated
Customs typically charges duty as a percentage of the item value, then VAT/GST on the value plus duty plus (often) shipping. If the shipment is under the country’s de-minimis threshold, duty — and sometimes import tax — is waived. Carriers usually add a brokerage or handling fee on top, which varies by carrier and isn’t included here.
FAQ
How accurate is this?
It’s an estimate. Real duty depends on the product’s exact tariff (HS) code, trade agreements, and the carrier’s handling fee, which this tool doesn’t know. Use it for a ballpark, not a customs declaration.
What is a “de minimis” threshold?
A value below which a country waives duty (and sometimes import tax). For example the US is US$800; many EU countries waive duty under about €150 but still charge VAT from the first euro.
Who collects the duty and tax?
Usually the carrier pays customs on your behalf and then bills you — often with an extra brokerage/handling fee — before or at delivery.
Why was I charged when tracking said “in transit”?
Customs charges are assessed during clearance, which shows as “in transit” or “customs” in tracking. You’re typically notified separately to pay.
Estimate only — rates and thresholds change and depend on the product’s tariff code. Not customs advice.
