How package tracking actually works

  1. Carriers scan your parcel at checkpoints. Each time a package is received, sorted, loaded, or delivered, the carrier records an event with a time and a location.
  2. “Location” means checkpoints, not live GPS. Couriers don’t broadcast a moving dot — they publish the cities your parcel passes through. We geocode those and plot them on a map.
  3. International parcels are handed between carriers. A China → US parcel may move from China Post to USPS. We stitch events from both into one timeline.
  4. Paste the number and we do the rest. We auto-detect the carrier, fetch the latest events, and give you a shareable result page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know which carrier shipped my package?

No. Paste the tracking number and we automatically detect the carrier — UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL, Royal Mail, China Post and over 1,000 others — then show the status and journey.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it’s free and there’s no sign-up. Paste a number and you get a shareable result page instantly.

Can I see the package on a map?

We plot each tracking checkpoint (the cities a parcel passes through) on a map and show a status timeline. Carriers don’t expose live GPS, so it’s the checkpoint history rather than a live moving dot.

Why does my tracking show little or no detail?

Detail depends on the carrier. Big couriers post frequent scans; some regional or economy carriers only report a few events. We show everything the carrier makes available.
